ROM2RA can be used to quickly install any Cd-ROM into your
RemoteAccess 2.xx File DataBase. I found I kept typeing the same
thing over and over. So I wrote ROM2RA to solve that problem. This
program will make the installing of a CD-ROM file areas or disk drive
areas pretty simple. You will need to just do a couple of things to
set everything up.
STEP 1) Create a file area in RACONFIG that ROM2RA can use as a
template for all areas of the CD-ROM. ROM2RA will use the template
file area to create the new File DataBase areas for you.
***********************************************************
* STEP 2) BACKUP your FILES.RA/FILES.RDX for just incase. *
***********************************************************
Step 3) Run ROM2RA. ROM2RA will ask a couple of questions. The first
time you use the program it will ask for paths to your RA system
directory and the path to where ROM2RA is located. ROM2RA should be
run from it's own directory as it looks for it's config file there.
If it is not run from the directory where it is located it cannot
find the config file. If it cannot find the config file it will simply
just create another one.
You will be prompted for the area number of the template area. You
will also be prompted for the first area to start adding the CD-ROM
areas. You will be prompted for the path to the base directory that
you want to add to your File DataBase. ie if you CD-ROM is E: then
ROM2RA will go to E:\ and start from there. It will then gather
information on the base directory and ALL sub directories. If you
decide you want to just add areas starting with say E:\RA then
ROM2RA will only add E:\RA and the sub directories of E:\RA.
You will be asked if you wish to add each area. You will be asked
for a name to each area. ROM2RA will give you a default name that
you can use or you can enter any name you wish.
ROM2RA will adopt all files except *.BBS files. ROM2RA will also
import descriptions from a FILES.BBS if one is located in the added
directory. If you do not want the descriptions added you can do that.
I doubt you would want to turn this off however. It is pretty quick.
This program is not freeware. It is shareware. The author retains
all copyright privileges. The registration for ROM2RA is $3.00.
I can be contacted via FIDO at 1:2320/190. via the internet at
dcox@sunnyside.paonline.com, dcox@thepoint.com. via SnailMail at
Computer Resources, 1010 Allsion Lane, Jeffersonville, IN 47130.
ROM2RA will put ROM2RA as the uploader of the files when not
registered. You will be able to put whatever you like once registered.
I don't think this advertisement is much to ask for a non-registered
program. I am sure this program will make installing CD-ROM's much
simpler and will save you great deal of time.
Please let me know what you think of the program and what other
inhancements you would like to see.
